The Coolabilities Origin Story
When our youngest son transitioned from early intervention services into public education, I asked the question, “What is an IEP?” The answer propelled me into the world of special education. In my quest to understand my role as a parent in the special education process, I learned about a special education parent advisory council (SEPAC). As we established a SEPAC in Westfield Washington School District, my volunteer work as the parent lead has been and continues to be so rewarding. Then, as I started to work with statewide groups in family engagement, the vision for Coolabilities came through.
The launch of this organization will be the space and place for me to assist families and educators statewide as well as offer services to my home community.
